Alpine and Tuolumne Counties– Due to the forecasted adverse weather conditions, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close State Route 4 over Ebbett’s Pass and State Route 108 over Sonora Pass on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
This preemptive closure is necessary to ensure motorists safety during the predicted storms. Maintenance crews will re-evaluate the closure on Thursday, June 2, 2011. Crews will use weather and road conditions to determine if the passes can be reopened for the weekend.
Caltrans would like to thank the public for their understanding and cooperation during this unusual spring storm and will work to get the passes reopened as quickly as they are able.

EBBETTS PASS (STATE ROUTE 4) AND SONORA PASS (STATE ROUTE 108) OPEN
Alpine and Tuolumne Counties– The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has removed the packed winter snow, cleared the debris and made the necessary repairs to open State Route 4 over Ebbetts Pass and State Route 108 over Sonora Pass.
The diligent work of Caltrans crews enabled the opening of the passes for motorists who utilize these routes. The snow totals for the two areas were especially high during this season, with multiple late spring storms affecting the region. Intermittent chain controls were still in effect on the east side of the Sonora Pass as late as last week.
Caltrans crews responsible for the pass openings extend their best wishes for safe summer traveling to those who enjoy the recreational opportunities this part of California has to offer.
For the latest in highway information please call our Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
