FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INTERSTATE 205 WIDENING PROJECT COMPLETED
All lanes open

Tracy - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has opened all lanes of Interstate 205 to traffic.

The two new lanes constructed as part of the $92 million I-205 Widening Project, were scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009; however, these lanes opened five months ahead of schedule.

The widening of this gateway will stimulate growth in transportation commerce by providing the ability to move goods from the Central Valley to the Bay Area. In addition, the project will open job accessibility to the Bay Area for residents through out the Central Valley.

The Interstate 205 Improvements Project was a collaborative partnership between Caltrans District 10, the San Joaquin Council of Governments (COG) and the City of Tracy using State tax dollars, Measure K Funds and improvement funds from the City of Tracy. The 11 mile project widened I-205 from four lanes to six lanes from Hansen Road to I-5; widened twenty-two existing structures; constructed a median barrier and re-striped I-5 prior to the northbound I-5/I-205 connector.

The new lanes will improve safety, reduce traffic congestion and help to improve air quality in the San Joaquin Valley.
