CLOSURE
STATE ROUTE 12
SAN JOAQUIN/SACRAMENTO
MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS

San Joaquin/Sacramento Counties – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will conduct maintenance and pavement repair operations requiring the daytime closure of State Route 12 (SR-12) from Interstate 5 (I-5) in San Joaquin County to SR-160 in Sacramento County.

Work will begin on Tuesday, September 15, 2009, through Thursday, September 17, 2009, from 7:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Detours will be posted. Motorists should consider I-80 and I-5 as alternate routes and should allow additional travel time due to the detour. The signed detour for the area will be SR-160 north to Walnut Grove Road then to I-5 (a 30 mile/45 minute detour).

Trucks will not be allowed to use the alternate route. Trucks should use I-5 and I-80 as an alternate route.

No through traffic will be allowed through the area. Access to local residents, businesses, and emergency services will be allowed.

Caltrans has scheduled this three-day closure to minimize impacts to the traveling public:

· This complete road closure will allow Stockton and Rio Vista Maintenance crews to do simultaneous repair work at an accelerated rate;

· Provide opportunities for local reclamation, water district, and utilities to perform needed maintenance;

· This schedule minimizes impact on motorists by completing all required work in three working days compared to the fifteen working days using one-way traffic control with 90 minute traffic delay.

Highway Advisory Radios and Changeable Message Signs will be activated to assist motorists.

This work must be conducted prior to the winter/fog season and to address major distressed areas of the roadway and maintenance concerns.

This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change based on weather conditions.

For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Slow For the Cone Zone.
