CALTRANS DISTRICT 10 PRESENTS $1000.00 SCHOLARSHIP CHECK
TO west HIGH SCHOOL senior

Tracy – The Department of Transportation’s (Caltrans) District 10 office in Stockton, along with the California Transportation Foundation, awarded Matthew Bowen, Merrill F. West High School senior, with a $1,000 Future in Transportation scholarship on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, during West High School’s Scholarship Night.

Monetary funds for this scholarship are raised through fundraisers sponsored by the employees of Caltrans. This annual scholarship is open to seniors who have a GPA of 2.6 or better, have an interest in a transportation related career and are graduating from a high school located within the geographical boundaries of District 10 or the child of a Caltrans employee working in District 10. District 10 covers Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus and Tuolumne counties. The field of transportation encompasses an array of areas including: Engineering, Communications, Accounting, Landscaping, Legal, Information Technology, Business Administration and Construction.

Mr. Bowen will be attending the University of California at Berkeley in the fall and plans to major in Business Administration. Mr. Bowen is a 4.5 GPA student who is actively involved in the Future Business Leaders of America Club, the California Scholarship Federation and Key Club.
